Hi Nannette,

Please forgive me for not writing this earlier.

I had been a member on your site for several years. Unlike most of your members I had not joined the site to find a spouse but rather to find great Christian friends. You see having never been married and now in my mid-40's I truly felt as though I never would be blessed with a husband. I felt it was a gift of God that I was not worthy of.

Your site was a blessing as I met many great friends, both male & female. It was kinda funny as it seemed that many would come to me for advice about somebody that they were interested in, or Biblical questions they had, or just to vent. My greatest advice was to be VERY security conscious and don¡¦t give out personal info. Too soon. Some of these friends did find spouse and I was able to attend their weddings, on a few occasions that was the first time I met them face to face. It was always as though we were long lost friends when we would meet.

One of the things I would do was to send out birthday greetings on member's birthdays. So many singles don't have anyone to wish them a happy birthday on their special day. Anyway as I was doing this one morning a profile popped up of a Seventh-day Adventist that lived in Punxsutawney, PA. Since I too am an SDA I thought it would be great to have an SDA friend in PA. I just sent him a quick note that said, 'It's great to know there are SDA groundhogs.' Nothing more! He wrote back and a great friendship developed. It turned out that we had mutual friends even though we were over 2000 miles apart.

My past and my personal belief had convinced me that I was not worthy of anything more than a great friendship. It took a bit to convince me that I was truly being blessed with a wonderful best friend that wanted to be more. We threw out fleeces as did Gideon of old. Always they were answered to continue moving our relationship forward.

To make a long story short in December 2003 we were married in an outdoor lake ceremony at the base of Mt. Rainier. Even the wedding was another sign of God's leading us together.

Thank You for your website. Not only did I meet my husband but many wonderful friends.

Just a quick note to you. One of the fleeces that I threw out was that he would begin praying with me. He kept asking what my fleece was because I told him it hadn't yet been met. I told him I couldn't tell him as that would ruin it. He then asked if he could pray with me. :-) That sealed it for me.

Another strange thing (as compared to most couples) was that I didn't have any pictures of myself as I have never liked cameras very well. I told him I was tall and very very fat. After all I wasn't in it for a spouse and for friends it usually doesn't matter what a person looks like. He proposed to me without ever seeing a picture of me! I didn't include that into the story as I would NOT recommend that for most. (There are too many that are in it for other reasons and it really isn't safe.) I had checked him out carefully as best that anyone could before letting it get that far. I.E. I called were he worked without id-ing myself and confirmed as much as any investigator could. He had already told me the rest that one would most likely want to know. I also called his pastor by going through the conference to make sure I really had his pastor and not just a friend helping him with a scheme. As I said I would advise anyone to be very careful. I did tell him as soon as I had done this and explained why.
David had no problems with it either!

Anyway Thanks again,
Helen
