  jim and all,

You say:
-- had this girl not been warned in advance
-- however, she was told not to
-- rather than usurping his glory by breaking the rules

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego were warned in advance to bow down before the golden statue. They were told to bow down at the risk of their lives. They broke the rules.

You say:
-- ifn they demean us, ridicule our god, should we in turn demean, ridicule them?

She did nothing to ridicule her school. She did what was right in God's site and what her conscience and relationship with God encouraged her to do.

As miraclblvr so succinctly stated, because of her act, the world will be blessed.

The three hebrew boys were told by the ruler of the land, and they were not free in a land that claims FREEDOM OF SPEECH, they were warned as SLAVES in a foreign land to BOW DOWN to the golden image or die. Did they? THANK GOD THEY DID NOT. Do you think others of their own faith ridiculed them. Of course some did, because all the others chose to bow down. But do you think their action proved a witness to those? Of course it did. Some may have questioned their own relationship with the God of their fathers.

Was Nebuchadnezzar angry about this? Daniel 3:13 says he most certainly was: "Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego."

The school officials may have thrown a fit and felt they were doing right, just like Nebuchadnezzar, but that did not make them right either.

Just because Brittany was told by those who deemed themselves a higher power not to praise God, it did not make them right.

Nebuchadnezzar knew these young men had something special in them so he gave them a SECOND chance. How many rulers of nations do you think would have given a mere slave a second chance? He said to them "Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?”"

Ah yes, here he thinks he has the authority to challenge their God. Just as these school officials felt they had the authority to challenge Brittany's God.

We know the rest of the story. These 3 young men refused to bow down a second time. In a rage King Nebuchadnezzar "commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated." The men who cast Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego into the fire were killed instantly from the heat. "Therefore, because the king’s command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego."

Did God bless these young men's actions? Yes! They proved a witness to their own people, to the people of the land in which they were enslaved, and to King Nebuchadnezzar: "“Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”"

God as the Son came down and walked with these young men in their time of trial. Not a hair on their heads was singed. "Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, who sent His Angel and delivered His servants who trusted in Him, and they have frustrated the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they should not serve nor worship any god except their own God!"

Did God have great plans for these youth! Yes! "Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego in the province of Babylon."

God has great plans for Brittany! And in this age when kids are doing drugs, drinking, having sex, and all of these things are honored on television in programs designed for the teenage audience, this world needs a Brittany McComb to stand for what is right and good.

  hello yall,

it seems to me that she was warned in advance not to use her intended speech. she was censored from before she even began to speak. while i would agree that this is wrong on so many levels. while i would agree that i should be able to proclaim gods love to me from every rooftop. while i agree that i wish there was some way to sing praise and worship songs everywhere i go. lets remember that not all of us are wanting to hear it.

you (nannette) stated, that they can say god's name (in vain), but that we cannot say his name with the recognition he deserves. understand that is truth. but, there is a difference in breaking rules to say god loves me, and just giving god praise. had this girl not been warned in advance, then she would have had the right to say "i give god all the glory for my achievements." however, she was told not to. as a 4.7 gpa student, she may have found a way to suggest that god was in charge of her life, legally. this would have shown the glory of god from a thousand rooftops, rather than usurping his glory by breaking the rules.

as stated by derightwoman, there is a time and a place to be forceful, and a time and a place for everthing under the sun. there is a time and a place for piety. there is a time and a place that all will see gods glory when he shows himself to the world.

how can we suggest that they are doing wrong, by doing the same things they are doing. how can we be hypocritical about our faith. ifn they demean us, ridicule our god, should we in turn demean, ridicule them? is breaking the rules giving god his just glory? we cannot step out and force our religion onto others, just like (i wish) others would not be allowed to try and force theirs upon us. for them to do so is wrong, should we be wrong with them?

i truly desire to see god in every aspect of life. i would love to see my daughter give a public speech and proclaim gods amazing love to the world within it. how proud could i be at that moment. however, i would not want to see my daughter hijack a plane, because she wanted to tell the world about her god.

"Not mentioning God in a public speech is not bowing down in any way." IT IS bowing down, if it's against your beliefs as a Christian(and it should). IT IS bowing down, if GOD TOLD YOU TO DO THE CONTRARY. "Even Jesus didn't talk about his Father all the time." ARE U KIDDING??? EVERYTHING Jesus spoke came DIRECTLY FROM THE THRONE OF HIS FATHER. He was his Father's spokesperson. And while he may not have said, my father my father my father...those topics that he did speak of..ie, money, farming, food, prophecies i'm sure at one time or another...were spoken of(at one time or another)--against the advisement of others. Even his own disciples attempted to hinder his ministry on several occasions (much like christians do today), hmmmmmmmmm. Another example of those who DIDN'T BOW DOWN were the Hebrew boys, Daniel prayed when told not to pray..he wouldn't bow down (there's no difference they chose to serve God instead of men). It's funny, what Brittney did...standing in the face of opposition is something THAT WE ALL AS CHRISTIANS are going to face in our lives. Kingdom people are aware of that fact, and pray that when the times come we can be brave and bring him glory in the midst of oppression and opposition. I won't ask WWJD, but i'll ask this WWYD(what would you do?)? God uses the example of children in his Word on several occasions because: 1) they're humble. 2)they were excited and hungry to learn. 3)are fearless. 4) were OBEDIENT. It's obvious and apparent that Brittney has a relationship w/God. And for those 'christians' aka 'church folk' who take issue w/that young lady's actions..it serves as a measuring stick for where your walk is..OR ISN'T. The beautiful thing is this...had she relented and censored herself...we would've never heard of her, and been blessed by her actions. But because she stood her ground...SHE'S GARNERED INT'L ATTENTION!!!! HALLELUJAH!! This girl's ministry is going to take her places she could only dream of. You don't know WHAT GOD TOLD HER TO DO! And if mysogynistic entertainers can thank God, agents, baby mamas, lawyers etc when they've received an honor..why can't she? You can't possibly think God would be mad that she chose Him as ruler rather than men. He himself said, If you're ashamed of me, i'll be ashamed of you (and i am paraphrasing)...isn't this a perfect example to prove how you feel about him? if i went to a christian school, I'D EXPECT TO HEAR some kind of acknowledgment to God. why would i NOT HEAR IT?? And I choose to believe that God wrote Brittney's speech, she was just the vessel. Brittney's speech reflected who she was, and who helped her get there. Is this bringing HIM GLORY?? you better believe it is. Look at how many people are talking about God..who wouldn't otherwise. do you know how many people will come to Christ, and how many people are going to rededicate their lives to God..just off this one stance? will God get the glory...WHY WOULD HE NOT??? For those who had/have a problem...that's YOUR problem and you'll be prayed for...but to say she was "shoving an attitude" (since when is being proud to be christian an attitude??????????) is being a bit excessive. To know that in a time when teens are seeing videos, magazines etc as their gods, and doing all kinds of ungodly acts --to know that there are young people taking a stand for the one and only True living God...why would God be mad? Her parents have trained up their child according to the way she should go..why would God be mad? She ministered the Word of God, in spite of being threatened...why would God be mad? SHE OBEYED GOD...WHY WOULD HE BE MAD??? Dont make this child out to be some left-left-wing-religious-fanatical-idiot-blowing-up-abortion-clinics-in-the-name-of-Jesus...that's not what she did, and it's not who she is. She took a stand in the name of God..IT WAS HER SPEECH. And she's going to be blessed for her obedience...i'm blessed just knowing i'm in the same spiritual family as she.
****** brittney's 4.7gpa is an example of the excellence that God's bringing out of her. It's nothing for students to graduate w/4.1+gpa. And it's possible when you take an extra load of classes either thru summer/collegiate etc. It's possible..and she's a shining example of it being done--and if she's this awesome as a teenager..i can't wait to see how God will manifest her visions when she's older. GO BRITTNEY!! And may God continue to bless her and her family...may we ALL BE AS BOLD FOR THE THINGS OF GOD, IN JESUS' NAME!!!!

If Christ is a part of our lives as He should be as a Christian, how can you accept any honor without including Him in the thank yous?

Too much clapping and adulation is done over people now a days, when we would be nothing without Jesus. And I admire her for wanting to let the world KNOW that she owes everything to Jesus.

I don't see how mentioning Jesus or God in a speech is slapping anyone in the face. Our nation was built on Christianity and "In God we Trust" and Satan is the reason why people think mentioning God's name (outside of using it in vain swearing) is offending their sensibilities.

Do all the television shows, movies, and people who blatantly use His holy name swearing stop to think if it offends Christians? No. But they're the first to say they're offended if His name is used other than in swearing. What a sad state we've come to when we can't even thank our Lord, Master, and Creator without censorship. But our television shows and movies no longer censor offensive swearing of all kinds.

She was aware of the censorship prior to her speech and chose not to "bow down?" Not mentioning God in a public speech is not "bowing down" in any way. Even Jesus did not talk about His Father all the time ... He spoke about money, farming, food, prophecies ... and went to social events where there is no mention of Him talking about religious items. There is a time and place for everything under the sun. (Consider the book of Esther that doesn't mention the name of God even once. Was the writer "bowing down?") I have heard many a valedictorian speech at Christian schools where the name of God was never mentioned in the speech, not on purpose but because it was just not part of the speech. It did not mean that the person giving the speech was not a Christian.

When one is in a public forum, there is a need to be sensitive to the beliefs of everyone. That is the purpose of not mentioning certain religious beliefs ... because you are there speaking on behalf of your fellow students who may or may not all accept your religious slant. Brittany chose not to just say something acceptable, but to go with her original speech. In that case, her speech may have been viewed by many as an "in your face" affront to the school administration and the ACLU and I am not sure that God would condone our using Him in that manner. Is this really bringing glory to Him or are we just shoving an attitude down someone's throat when we do things like this?

I'm curious. How do you get a 4.7 gpa when a perfect "A" average is 4.0? Just wondering, since most high schools do not give A+ grades. Hmmm...
